MUSIC REQUIREMENTS FOR CAMP AUDITIONS

Requirements for the 1-week camp and the 3-week camp are different and available for download.

CAMP SCHOLARSHIP

Scholarships are offered to students majoring in music.
 
Scholarships will be given for majors in these music fields: Music Performance, Music Education, Music Theory/History, Musical Theater, Sacred Music, Music Industry, Jazz Studies, Music Pedagogy, Music Therapy, others as approved by GMEF.
 
They are paid to the college or university of the student's choice in four equal installments over a four-year period.
 
Auditions are held for piano, voice, strings, or band instruments.

Applications and procedures will be sent with the required listing of compositions by Jane McLean.

ELIGIBILITY
Students in the 8th - 11th grades who attend any Gaston County public, private, or home school and who reside in Gaston County.

Exceptions:  The following students may also audition :  (1) A student from Gaston County who is attending the North Carolina School of the Arts. (2) A student who is taking lessons from a teacher in Gaston County  and either resides in Gaston County or attends school in Gaston County.
AUDITION RULES
  1. Applicants must furnish the judges with 2 copies of published or legally documented copies of their music with measures numbered.  A letter of permission must be attached to photocopied music..                                            
  2.  IF AN ACCOMPANIMENT IS INDICATED IN THE SCORE, IT MUST BE USED.  Entrants must provide their own accompanists.   Vocalists and instrumentalists must perform with live accompaniment.
  3.  Compositions may be performed one year only.
  4.  Photos of all applicants will be taken at the audition and the winners' photos may be used by GMEF for local publicity.
  5.  Decisions of the judges will be final.                           
ENTRY RULES
1. A student may win a scholarship for only one (1) year to UNC-G  Music Camp. 
2. A student may win a scholarship for only one (1) year to Cannon Music Camp.
3. Any student who forfeits any GMEF scholarship is excluded from further auditions (Exception:  Governor's School). Any situation other than Governor's School shall be considered on an individual basis by the Executive Committee.
